Quilt Show Registration Guidelines

Category Descriptions

Small quilt      55" x 64"  or smaller (3520 square inches or smaller)

Medium quilt  between 55" x 64" and 78" x 87" (3520 to 6786 square inches)

Large quilt      79" x 87" or larger (over 6873 square inches)

Baby quilt       As specified by entrant, no size requirements

Wearables       Any clothing item. For example: dress, shirt, vest, coat, hat, etc.
                        (does not count toward the 5 maximum entries. No limit on Wearables)

Youth made     Made by someone 18 years or younger

Other quilted   This could be a bag, pillows, table runner, dolls, soft sculptures.
                        *(Does not count toward the 5 maximum entries. No limit on Other Quilted items)

Antique quilt   A quilt 50 years old or older. Does not include antique components of a quilt that
                         have been finished in recent years. For example antique quilt blocks that have later
                        been assembled into finished quilt this is not considered an antique.

Group Quilt    Quilt top made by two or more people. This does not refer to tops pieced by one      
                        person and quilted by another.

Miniature quilt Traditional blocks in smaller size. Block size 4" or smaller. quilt size : longest side
                         24" or smaller.

Art quilt          Original forms/compositions. can be abstract, nature, people, painted, pictorial.

DSQ Challenge  Any completed :Desert Sage Quilter's challenge or block of the month project.
                           may be quilt or other item. (category for DSQ members only)

Hand sewn or Hand quilted, by choice of entrant
        intended for bed   over 60" x 60" (over 3600 square inches)
        intended for wall  under 60" x 60" (under 3600 square inches)

Quilt show entry forms are due on or before March 28, 2015. As we have limited space, quilt entries are on a first come basis, so get your registration form in early. Every single item will have it's own registration form. If at the time of registration some information is not specific enough and entrant cannot be contracted in time, the registration committee will determine the category to place the item.

Bring item(s) entered in show to Twin Falls County Fairgrounds on Friday, April 10, 2015 from 8:00am to11:00am. When preparing your items follow these guidelines:

1. Each quilt must be in it's own clear plastic bag. (bags will be provided by guild)
2. label back of quilt of item with your name, address, and phone number
3. Pin a label to indicate the TOP of the quilt if necessary

Quilts may be picked up on Sunday April 12, 2015 from 5:00pm to 6:00pm at the Twin Falls County Fairgrounds, middle building. You must present your claim ticket to receive your quilt/item. No item will be released earlier than 5:00pm.

*The maximum number of quilts or other items each person can enter is five (5) (Except wearables & other items. see above). Please no not enter any quilt/item that has been in the previous DSQ show.

This quilt was made using all batik fabrics donated by guild members. The quilt was made by Pat Wagner with assistance from Carmen Vecera, Elaine Quinn and Joan Anderson. The machine quilting was done by Cynthia Fuelling of Burley, Idaho. Guild members are selling tickets for the quilt and the drawing will be held on Sunday April 12th. The quilt will be on display at the Desert Sage Quilt Show April 11-12, 2015 @ the Twin Falls County Fairgrounds, Filer Idaho. Tickets are 1 for $1 or 6 for $5

Festival Challenge theme:  "OUTSIDE MY WINDOW"

Create your interpretation of this theme in your fabrics. See the rules and guidelines for the Challenge on the Web Site. Cash prizes will go to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners

National Featured QuilterKatie Pederson

Katie says about herself:

My name is Katie. I teach quilting in Seattle. I love cutting fabric to bits and sewing it back together again. She has a new book out -- Quilting Modern: Techniques and Projects for Improvisational Quilts.

Her Website www.sewkatiedid.wordpress.com  says "Because thread is the best glue...." Another new experience to put in our tool chest!
 
Local feature Quilter: to be announced.
 
Block challenge: a fat eighth of fabric is available for purchase for $1.00 or if it needs to e mailed $1.50. Create a 12" block, finished size and submit for entry. "The People"  will vote on their favorite block, the one with the most votes takes all the blocks home. You may obtain your fabric by emailing Kay Fortner at kay.fortner@yahoo.com. Again the complete instructions are on the website.
 
Other Activities to look forward to:
 
           hourly demonstrations -- complete with prize drawings.
           raffle ticket with each paid admission for chance to win a   
           cutting system
           quilter's cafe with great homemade goodies
           vendor's mall -- save your pennies!
           stuff table with lots of bargains on books, magazines and 
           patterns, etc.
           silent auction quilts for sale, both large and small

So there you have it. Lots of great reasons to come visit our Festival and the wonderful Walla Walla Valley! A reminder that we are a non-profit organization dedicated to the education and promotion of quilt's old and new. Your entry fees and the revenue from the silent auction quilts contribute to 4-H quilters, Hospice and the Humane Society.

On December 4th a handful of guild members got together and shared a meal and some laughs; then we got busy and bagged up the; hats, scarfs, gloves and socks.
